I am the granddaughter of I. Willis Cole, editor and sole owner and publisher of the weekly race newspaper The Louisville Leader 1917-1950. I have secured his induction into the National Negro Press Association's Distinguished Gallery of Black Newspaper Publishers at Howard University, the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame at the University of Kentucky, the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, Civil Rights Hall of Fame and was granted a kentucky Historical Society Highway Marker on his behalf.  An extensive colleciton of the Leader was transferred to microfilm by the University of Louisville Archives and Record Center in 1977 and has since been digitized and made freely accessible on line.
